Comic Books Have Motivating Superpowers
Literacy rates are so important. Children can’t pass their classes and move on to a higher education if they can’t read. The literacy rates in America have steadily increased. It is so important to be able to read because it is necessary for finding a job. You have to read to fill out applications and understand company policies when hired. As we all know, children are our future. We have to teach them how to read when they are young so they can move up to higher education, have great jobs, and help better our world. Comic books have a played a huge role in increasing literacy rates in our country. The bright colors, fun words, superheroes, villains, action, and adventure are so appealing to a reading child. Children are motivated to read the fun pages of a comic book.
Studies have been conducted in elementary schools about the motivational factor behind comic books and children reading. Researchers have found that when a child owns a comic book, they are more likely to become involved in a discussion or class debate. State officials and educators across the country even have a program to promote reading using comic books called the Comic Book Project. People are beginning to see what powers comic books have. They have literary elements that help children learn and understand about plot and character development. The pages and words also use a lot of literary elements such as onomatopoeias. Comic books also deal with moral issues, such as good versus evil, and social issues. A recent trend for comics is writing about political issues and historical figures such as President Barack Obama. After reading comics, most children will become more creative and imaginative because they are exposed to another world with superheroes and alien like characters.
Children are more inclined to stay focused reading a comic because of the ratio of pictures to words. Most comics are half pictures and half words. The words in comics are unique themselves. This introduces new readers to words they may not have seen in a textbook reading book. Because of the unique and interesting words and pictures, children will find reading fun and enjoyable. This will increase their chances of becoming a better reader and to read a lot because it will be a fun activity to them. A lot of comics are written for adults, so check with comic book stores or librarians to find the best suited comic for your children.

i need help preparing for comic con '08?
hey guys and gals i need help planning my trip to comic con. it is my first time this year and i have a couple of questions:...are there freebees? do people give out promotional stuff for free... because ive heard they do but i am unsure. how much money should i bring if i plan to shop quite a bit...and finally i want to get some stuff signed does it cost...and if so how much...
ps. i am looking forward to it...so i need these questions answered asap!!!
Comic con has so many freebies I actually suggest you bring an entire extra bag to bring them home. Seriously.
Actually, instead of doing that, the first freebie you should get is anyone that gives you a giant bag. There's always someone who does.
Seriously, be prepared to be buried in freebies. You might even end up throwing some away because you'll be bogged down.
I always bring about $300 to shop with. Things are expensive. Getting things signed is usually FREE unless a movie/TV celebrity is actually selling autographs in the autograph area. Ask first. But *most* artists sign comic books for free.

Promotional Merchandise $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Promotional merchandise, promotional items, promotional products, promotional gifts, or advertising gifts are articles of merchandise that are branded with a logo and used in marketing and communication programs. They are given away to promote a company, corporate image, brand, or event. These items are usually imprinted with a companys name, logo or slogan, and given away at trade shows, conferences, and as part of guerrilla marketing campaigns. The first known promotional products in the United States are commemorative buttons dating back to the election of George Washington in 1789. During the early 1800s, there were some advertising calendars, rulers, and wooden specialties, but there wasnt an organized industry for the creation and distribution of promotional items until later in the 19th century. Jasper Meeks, a printer in Coshocton, Ohio, is considered by many to be the originator of the industry when he convinced a local shoe store to supply book bags imprinted with the store name to local schools. Promotional Recording $82.85 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A promotional recording, or promo (recently known as a radio single), is a recording issued on Vinyl, 8track, Cassette, CD, MP3, VHS, DVD, or Bluray, and distributed free in order to promote a commercial recording. Promos are usually sent out to music radio and television stations, music journalists and reviewers in advance of the official release date so that their reviews will appear in the current publications, and DJs. They are often distributed in plain white packaging, without the text or artwork that appears on the commercial version. Typically a promo is marked with some variation of the following text: Licensed for promotional use only. Sale is prohibited. It may also state: Item is to be returned to the distributor upon demand. Before the advent of formats other than vinyl records, a type of promo surfaced known as an acetate. These records were made of a cheaper and lower quality acetate vinyl. Using Comics To Nurture Your Child's Reading Habits
Ask any child about reading and they will tell you that reading is boring. Kids today will more likely prefer to play video games, listen to musics, watch movies and the TV, or simply surf the internet rather than read a book.
Your child should be encouraged to turn off the TV and sit down with a good book, but asking him to do so is one of the most difficult task for any parents. This is where a comic book can play the role to introduce you child to reading.
Why reading?
Reading helps your child acquire knowledge. If English is your second language, reading promotes speech and language development, and helps to improve pronunciation and vocabulary. Reading calms the mind and this helps your child to relax.
Why Comic Books?
To explain it better I will use the upcoming Iron Man 2 movies and comic titles from Marvel. Iron Man 2 is coming out in May 2010, if you have taken your son to the first one, I am sure he is waiting for the second installment.
The first thing you need to do is buy him his first comic book. You can start by getting the latest issue of Mighty Avengers or Invisible Iron Man. This is to build his anticipation for the movie and at the same time, his interest into reading. You have a few months to Iron Man 2, enough time to get a few issues for your son.
In between the issues, talk to your son about what is he reading. Ask him to retell it to you. Ask him what he likes about Iron Man. Ask him about the enemies of Iron Man. You can actually ask just about anything about Iron Man. The more details he include, the more apparent that he is following the story and engaged in it.
By May 2010, take him to the movie. He will thank you for that and at the same time, you would have taken some time off from his TV and video games schedule to reading. Even if it is only reading comic books, it is a start.
Reading comics is the first step. If he likes it, gradually introduce him to junior novels. This could be introduce during your next family travel trip where he would need more than just comics to keep his time occupied. Especially when it involve a long drive.
Get the idea?
The world is full of interesting things to learn and do. Don't let your kids merely sit back and watch TV, or play video games. Get them interested into reading, and let comics be the first step.
It will also be good for you. If you are tired of books, give comics a try.
