If you have been to some street fair or theme park recently, you might have seen a caricature artist for action. People stop to obtain their comic portraits attracted inside a cartoon style, frequently with large heads and small physiques doing something funny. If you want to learn to draw these kinds of sketches, it, Face Off: How you can Draw Amazing Caricatures and Comic Portraits, by Harry Hamernik, might help.
Most books regarding how to draw caricatures come from famous artists who've done many celebrity portraits previously. Artists like Dick Gautier and Lenn Redman are a couple of the greater known ones. However their styles really are a little dated, and you may be searching for something more relevant to modern style.
It begins by talking about materials and supplies you'll need, including pens, paper, markers and color pens. I love the instructions for any do-it-yourself lap easel, which may be made inexpensively for those who have very fundamental handy construction abilities.
After that it covers marker, pencil, and colored pencil techniques. Included in this are how not receiving fuzzy lines, different your lines, dealing with value, and color mixing. He then shows how you can color a portrait using pens as well as some computer coloring techniques.
He presents a particular process for drawing a portrait and encourages you to definitely draw ten faces every single day for 20 days consecutively prior to trying to sketch someone. You should know how you can do the entire process of a caricature first, without getting stuck, before you adding the problem of attempting to make it seem like someone.
The following section covers how you can draw specific features. He gives several sample face shapes and good examples of noses, eyes, hair, etc. You will find multiple useful tips and hints scattered throughout, for example that one about eyes: "A bigger iris can make your subject look more youthful. Think Bambi."
He also talks about and describes distance, anchor, and pivot points. They are key when drawing portraits, since the tiniest alternation in particulars could make your caricature seem like the individual or otherwise. Drawing a likeness is very difficult.
The relaxation from the book consists of two large sections, one for 3/4 view portraits, and something for profile sights. These, such as the section on face forward portraits, give plenty of good examples, tips, and methods.
There's an excellent sampling of various facial types along with a fair selection of age range, although you will find no seniors whatsoever. But you will find some with glasses, a mind bandana, jewellery, and hair on your face, the types of stuff that can trip you up.
Overall, it is really an excellent overview if you're attempting to learn to draw in this fashion. Face Off: How you can Draw Amazing Caricatures and Comic Portraits, by Harry Hamernik will enable you to get began within the right direction.
