8 Warning Signs You are Dating a Married Man
The perfect man may be just around the corner, but if you’re dating a man and have a suspicion he’s too good to be true, you may be right. Sometimes a man who seems perfect is trying so hard because he has to go that extra mile to allay your suspicions. While we aren’t saying there are no wonderful men out there, we do suggest you exercise caution. If you feel like some things just aren’t adding up, it’s time to put him to the test. If some of the scenarios below sound familiar, it’s time to do some sleuthing.
- He won’t give you his home phone or work phone. Cell phones are great, but if he isn’t willing to share any other numbers, it may be so you don’t call when he’s with family or co-workers.
- He often asks if he can call you right back. Answering the phone and asking if he can call you back frequently is a red flag. He’s probably taking the time to move to a room where no one can hear him or making up a plausible story for who is calling and why.
- He never asks you to his home or apartment. If you only get together at your place, there’s a reason you haven’t been invited to his. It’s most likely a wife. A variation on this is if you do go to his apartment, but it doesn’t seem to be lived in. If he only has a few changes of clothes in the closet and the fridge is empty, his apartment is probably a hideaway to escape his real home.
- His schedule is unusually rigid. Do you only see each other on Thursday evenings and Mondays for lunch? An extremely rigid schedule is often a sign he’s working you in when he can find a handy excuse for his family such as weekly meetings or late nights at the office.
- You’ve never met his friends. If a man is truly in love with you, he generally wants to tell the world. If he claims to want to keep you to himself, he’s actually trying to keep others from finding out about you. Or he may have introduced you to only one friend – the buddy that keeps his secrets. If you’ve met one friend who sometimes makes comments that don’t make sense or is ambiguous about the relationship you have with your man, it may indicate the friend’s helping with the cover up.
- You’ve never met his family and he doesn’t take about them. You don’t have to meet his parents in the first few weeks, but if months go by and he doesn’t even talk about them or introduce you to a brother or sister, start worrying. Most married men don’t talk about siblings or parents for fear something about a wife and children will slip during conversations.
- He always pays in cash. He may claim to prefer paying cash, but if you’ve literally never seen him use his credit card on a date, he may be trying to avoid a paper trail. It’s especially alarming when he doesn’t use a card to pay for an expensive restaurant, tickets to an event, or a hotel room.
- He changes the subject when you try to talk about the future. Living in the moment sounds great, but if he consistently uses this as an excuse to avoid any discussion of your future as a couple, he probably isn’t planning on – or can’t plan on – a future with you.
