Final Expense Insurance – Final Expense Insurance Details
Final expense insurance is a low value life insurance policy that is specifically designed to pay for funeral expenses and other limited end of life expenses. They are basically life insurance policies that have been modified for more narrow purposes. They generally cover very basic costs and are issued for no more than about $50,000. They function in much the same way as life insurance policies. They are either term or whole life and require a beneficiary. There are usually age limits on when applicants can ask for final expense policies. Sometimes a health examination will be required as well.
Life insurance and final expense insurance basically fit into two areas, term and whole life. Term insurance has an expiration date and whole life does not. Term insurance can be purchased to last for a given amount of years of until the policy holder reaches a certain age. Whole life insurance is purchased for the policy holder's lifetime and will pay out a benefit at some point. Simplified issue policies require some medical examination or will ask medical question on their applications. Insurance companies want to know their risk before agreeing to insure the applicant. Other policies are guaranteed issue. These do not require any medical questioning or examination before agreeing to provide insurance.
The benefit of one type of final expense insurance over the other is that if the applicant is older but in good health, a simplified issue policy might be more easily obtained than one that is guaranteed issue and would reject the applicant simply because of age. Some simplified issue insurance companies will consider applications from clients as old as 75 years of age. Applicants with poor health may benefit from seeking a guaranteed issue policy. Poor health can drive up premiums on final expense insurance. Or those with poor health may be rejected altogether.
Some final expense insurance is based on a graded death benefit. This means that those with poor health can get a better death benefit each year they survive. This is an option offered to those who have poor health or are at an advanced age. Any life insurance policy may function on the above ideas, but final expenses are a special type of insurance that is specifically designed to take care of funeral expenses. Broader life insurance policies can address issues of benefits for dependents and other considerations.

How was the issue of slavery dealt with in the final version of the Constitution?
The Constitution most definitely deals with slavery, the specifics of which I will get to in a minute. But first I want to address some errors introduced by Michael K and Squid Vicious.
The Compromise of 1820 (more commonly known as the Missouri Compromise) did not necessarily bring Missouri in as a slave state. The Compromise prohibited slavery in those parts of the Loiusiana Purchase north of the the southern border of Missouri. Missouri was given the choice of going slave or free, and as it happened they went slave. The Missouri Compromise was later repealed as part of the Compromise of 1850.
The Constitution not only did not outlaw the slave trade, it protected it, at least until 1808. Article I, Section 9, says that the "Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States . . . shall think proper to admit shall not be prohibited by the Congress" until 1808. Thereafter the issue was open as to whether the slave trade would continue. In fact, as soon as the deadline was past Congress moved to outlaw the slave trade.
The so-called Three-Fifths Compromise, which Michael K mentions, is contained in Article I, Section 2, and does in fact allow states to count each slave as three-fifths of a person for the purposes of apportioning representatives and taxes. This was a huge boon to the Southern states, which had large slave populations compared with the North. This was particularly true later on, when some states, such as South Carolina, had as many or more slaves as free people.
Article IV, Section 2, effectively created the Fugitive Slave Law, because it essentially says that a slave escaping to a free state is not free, and that that slave must be returned to his rightful owner.
Finally, Article V prohibits any interference, through the passage of amendments, with the slave-related clauses of Article I, Section 9 (already mentioned above), until 1808.
All of these compromises were made in order to get the Southern states, where slavery was already becoming crucially important, to ratify the Constitution. The Framers are usually given the benefit of the doubt in this area, the assumption being that they believed that slavery, being not particularly economical, would eventually die out of its own accord, so that the importance of ratification was not worth making it an issue. They probably could not have forseen the invention, just a few years after the Constitution was ratified, of the cotton gin, which made cotton production, and by extension slavery, hugely profitable.

Final - $12.99 A man struggles to prove he isn't insane -- which is no mean feat when you're certain you're been transported 400 years into the future. Anne (Hope Davis) is a psychiatrist working at a hospital for the criminally insane whose latest charge is Bill Tyler (Denis Leary), a man who was recently admitted when he was found inside a wrecked truck found in a quarry. Bill isn't sure just where he is or what's happened to him, but he's certain he's traveled four centuries into the future, and if he can't find a way to get back to the past within 48 hours, assassins will execute him by lethal injection. Anne is bemused by Bill's odd story, but doesn't challenge him on it, instead questioning him in detail about everything he can recall about his past prior to being brought in. As Bill rants about lasers and holographic images, shares his periodic hallucinations, and discusses his feelings about his family and his former girlfriend, he becomes increasingly lucid, and Anne has to figure out how much of Bill's story is fantasy, and how much is fact. Final was written by Bruce McIntosh, who based the script on his own stage play; the feature (shot on digital video) was directed by actor Campbell Scott. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi |

Final Patient/Salem Witch Trials - $12.99 Includes:Salem Witch Trials (2003) The Final Patient (2005) Salem Witch Trials In the tradition of Arthur Miller's McCarthy-era play The Crucible, this two-part TV dramatization of the Salem Witch Trials was heavily influenced by the present-day political scene. Rev. Parris (Henry Czerny), spiritual leader of Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692, needs a unifying issue to end the intramural squabbling between the town's Puritans. When the daughters of Ann and Thomas Putnam (Kirstie Alley and Jay O. Sanders) begin behaving in a bizarre, disruptive fashion, Parris knows that he has found something that can be transformed into a target of unilateral hatred for his flock. Before long, the Putnam girls and the family's servant Titubea (Gloria Reuben) have been labeled as witches, and eventually the hysteria spreads throughout the town, with anyone who doesn't agree with the status quo running the risk of public ostracism, and ultimately, execution for witchcraft (the eventual fate of 20 unfortunates). The climax is devoted to the notorious witch trials, staged at the behest of the Massachusetts colony's politically ambitious deputy governor (Peter Ustinov). Shirley MacLaine makes a rare TV appearance as the ill-fated Rebecca Nurse. Salem Witch Trials was presented by CBS on March 2 and 4, 2003. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi The Final Patient When a retired physician performs a miraculous feat that catches the attention of two curious medical students, their attempts to discover the secret behind the doctor's unique abilities yields a horrifying discovery. It seems that as the reclusive doctor advanced in years, his fear of death drove him on a desperate search for the fountain of youth. Despite the fact that he was successful in unlocking the key to immortality, Dr. Green's remarkable discovery has come at a horrifying cost. Now, as night falls over the countryside, these two curious medical students are about to discover just how unwise it can be to meddle with Mother Nature. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi |
