Spatial comic, comic installations - theory of repetition
Fusion of spatial drawing and alternative comic, invented by an young artist, Aleksander Curic, is a new movement in 9th art, called "Spatial comic". `Story of a proud man` Is a first work of that kind and he won special award for innovation on a International comic showroom in Belgrade in 2007. Alexander's basic idea was that every form which repeats itself can have, and can be a story, no matter in what kind of material it was made. Repeated form must be distorted and changed in every repetition and that is the story that form and material carries. In that case every single repetition is one frame, and whole installation is only one page.
For example if you look at the chairs in congress room, you will see that every chair was moved and put in different and individual position. But the chairs have a similar form. They tell a story about one chair, and every chair is a single frame. Whole congress room is only one page. This new philosophy of comic, but also the new spatial drawing approach provides large, unlimited field for experiments and research in this new wave of art, and of course great challenge for his creator Alexander Curic. This field is waiting to be expanded in further threedimensionality and Aleksander will have full hands of work in the future. The attempt to make trodimensional comic book is not new. The oldest attempt is comic with blue and red eye glasses which create an illusion of a new dimension, and it looks like the characters are coming out of the paper. Also there were comics made in wood and other materials, as well as comic miniatures. But the Spatial comic, like the fusion of alternative comic and spatial drawing is Aleksander's invention, as well as his basic Theory of Repetition. This theory has a fresh approach, not only for the comic but also for the story. Simply, it is new way to tell a story…
The fact that Aleksander Curic is inventor of spatial comic and its basic theory, is based not only on competent jury opinion on 5th International comic showroom, but also on a fact that there was no similar work in any available media sources before year 2006, when it was made.
