In concluding his memoir of Boston in "Gospel Truth," Brown notes,
"Few writings, if any, are more acceptable and useful. The following epitaph was written by Mr. R. Erskine:
'The great, the grace, judicious Boston's gone,
Who once like Athanasius bold stood firm alone;
Whose golden pen to future times will bear
His fame, till in the clouds his Lord appear.'"
Regrettably, however profitable most of Boston's writing is to all Christians, we would be remiss not to mention that in some small sections of his works he clearly sides with the backslidden Revolution church (against the Covenanters). Boston's errors on this point are countered by Andrew Clarkson's masterful book "Plain Reasons for Presbyterians Dissenting from the Revolution Church of Scotland. Also Their Principles Concerning Civil Government, and the Difference Betwixt the Reformation and Revolution Principles."
Finally, of Boston, David Lachman writes,
"He took an active part in the Marrow Controversy, having 'relished [the Marrow] greatly' since first finding a copy in a cottage while engaged in pastoral visitation in Simprin... John (Rabbi) Duncan aptly characterized Boston as a 'commonplace genius'... he infused it (Reformed Orthodoxy) with fresh life and warmth, influencing first his parish and eventually all of Scotland."
"His theology can be characterized as what came to be known as 'Marrow theology'. From early in his ministry he emphasized a free offer of the gospel, an assurance focused on Christ and not in the believer himself, and the power of grace in the life of the believer rather than the threatenings of the law. These and the like emphases are evident throughout his works. His first published book originated in a course of sermons preached in Simprin and again in Ettrick. After a series of mishaps, Human Nature in its Fourfold State (E, 1720) was published anonymously. His most influential work, it has been reprinted perhaps 100 times and translated into a variety of languages. The Bible aside, it had an influence second to none in the religious life of Scotland for well over 100 years."

His Memoirs is a classic (less his confusion about the Covenanters--RB); primarily a spiritual autobiography, it recounts his life with an endearing candour... The Complete Works" (12 vols, A, 1848-52 is the definitive edition ("Dictionary of Scottish Church History and Theology," pp. 88-89).
Commentary on the (Westminster) Shorter Catechism (volume one and two), by Thomas Boston, is also volume one and two in Boston's 12 volume set of Works.
Boston's work is the most comprehensive reference set ever penned on the Westminster Shorter Catechism. Concerning the Shorter Catechism, A.F. Mitchell states, "...it is a thoroughly Calvinistic and Puritan catechism, the ripest fruit of the Assembly's thought and experience, maturing and finally fixing the definitions of theological terms to which Puritanism for half a century had been leading up and gradually coming closer and closer to in its legion of catechisms" ("The Westminster Assembly: Its History and Standards").

Is or are there book volumes on essential math skills from beginning math to high school math?
I would love to have something like that on hand and in my home instead of having my face planted in front of the computer. Also, I just like books. : )
I've been doing research, but there's nothing that I've come by that I like the look of a whole lot.
I want something very professional. 
When I was in college I took a self taught, self paced, non-credit math course which covered basic math through high school algebra II. I still have the books which are fantastic. They are called Algebra Programmed and there are 4 of them. They are sequential; the first book is basic and they each build on each other, ultimately making algebra pretty easy! The authors are Robert H. Alwin and Robert D. Hackworth. I looked on line and you can order them (very inexpensively) through Amazon.
I highly recommend these books!

Substantial numbers of manuscripts circulated during the later medieval period containing reports of pleas heard before the Common Bench. The Enemies of Books (Dodo Press) $18.77 William Blades (18241890) was an English printer and bibliographer. In 1840 he was apprenticed to his fathers printing business in London, being subsequently taken into partnership. His interest in printing led him to make a study of the volumes produced by Caxtons press, and of the early history of printing in England. His Life and Typography of William Caxton, Englands First Printer, was published in 18611863, and the conclusions which he set forth were arrived at by a careful examination of types in the early books, each class of type being traced from its first use to the time when, spoilt by wear, it passed out of Caxtons hands. Some 450 volumes from the Caxton Press were thus carefully compared and classified in chronological order. In 1877 Blades took an active part in organizing the Caxton celebration, and strongly supported the foundation of the Library Association. He was a keen collector of old books, prints and medals. His publications relate chiefly to the early history of printing, The Enemies of Books, his most popular work, being produced in 1881. What makes a book rare and valuable? It all comes down to supply and demand — and condition. The rarest books in the world are highly sought after by collectors because they're associated with a particular author or a major historical event or era, or simply because they're incredibly old.
#10. The Gutenberg Bible – Gutenberg Bibles are rare and valuable for a number of reasons. In addition to their scarcity and status as the first of their kind, they're books of exceptional quality. Gutenberg used finely crafted paper and vellum, as well as a special ink of his own invention that has remained vivid for centuries. Most of the Bibles were sold in folio form, or as loose pages that the owner would then have bound in the style of his or her desire. That gives each Gutenberg Bible a certain uniqueness. Each Bible is usually split into two volumes, with the Old Testament filling the first volume, and the second volume containing the remainder of the Old Testament and the entire New Testament.

#7. Leonardo de Vinci's Codex Leicester – Da Vinci was a genius whose scientific observations were matched only by his innovative inventions and artistic talent. The Codex is a direct look at his observations and thought processes. It isn't in book form — the 18 leaves are separated, though they could fold together to form a 72-page book. Like many of da Vinci's works not intended for publication, it was written in mirror-hand: All the letters are reversed, and the writing goes from right to left. It appears "normal" when viewed in a mirror. Many diagrams and sketches are included alongside the text. The subject matter ranges from astronomy to fluid dynamics.

John James Audubon's ‘Birds of America' – John James Audubon was a naturalist and painter whose love of the natural world has made his name virtually synonymous with the act of observing and learning about wildlife. In fact, the Audubon Society is named after him. In 1820, he began painting birds in an attempt to paint every single avian species in North America. Audubon eventually completed 435 life-size bird paintings.
The paintings weren't issued in book form, but rather sent to subscribers, several at a time. This is partly why so few complete copies remain — about 120, by most counts. They're often collected and bound into a series of volumes. A full set would've cost about $1,000 when they were printed. Today, individual plates sell for thousands of dollars, and a full collection sold in 2000 for $8.8 million, making it one of the most expensive printed books in the world.
#5. Ptolemy's ‘Geographia' – Claudius Ptolemy was a scientist who lived around the year A.D.100. He produced several significant works that preserved much of the ancient world's scientific knowledge. His ideas and practices came into vogue again during the Renaissance.
One of his major works was titled "Geographia," later renamed "Cosmographia." In it, he outlined his principles of geography and cartography, then provided extensive maps of the world as he knew it at the time. Although the maps were very inaccurate by today's standards, they were a major source of the European view of the world during that period.

John Calvin's ‘Institutes of Christian Religion' – John Calvin wrote about theology during the Protestant Reformation, a historical era during which sweeping changes pulled the once monolithic Christian religion into many splinter sects. Calvin's writing career came after the initial break — his work underpinned the popularization of religious reform. Today, numerous religious denominations consider themselves Calvinists.
"Institutes of the Christian Religion" is a major work intended to provide guidance and commentary for readers of Biblical scripture. It was first printed in Latin in the 1530s, and later printed in English. In fact, the original title, "Institutio Christianae Religionis," is often a source of controversy, as to whether the English title is a proper translation.

#3. Arthur Rimbaud's ‘A Season in Hell' – French poet Arthur Rimbaud wrote "A Season in Hell" at the tail end of a tempestuous relationship with fellow poet Paul Verlaine. It's a lengthy poem broken into several sections, and much of it seems to be fueled by Rimbaud's use of hashish, absinthe and alcohol. It's a highly influential work, impacting the development of the Symbolist and Surrealist movements. Rimbaud published it in 1873.
#2. The Sarajevo Haggadah – A Haggadah is a Jewish religious text that tells the story of the Passover Seder and explains the seder ritual. Reading a Haggadah and performing the ritual is a key part of Jewish religious worship.
The Sarajevo Haggadah is a handwritten and illustrated book that was probably created in the 14th century. It's an illuminated manuscript, which means the pages are decorated with copper and gold. As a singular, historic book, the Sarajevo Haggadah is essentially priceless, but in 1991 it was appraised for insurance purposes when Spain requested it for a temporary display. The estimated value: $700 million
#1. Fyodor Solntsev's ‘Antiquities of the Russian State' – This book is a perfect example of supply and demand. It's similar to Audubon's "Birds of America" in that it's a collection of Fyodor Solntsev's paintings. Instead of birds, Solntsev painted old suits of armor, architecture, religious icons, clothing and costumes worn by nobles and other culturally significant Russian treasures. The paintings were then collected and published as a seven-volume set in 1844. Here's where the supply part comes in: Only 600 sets were made.
The rarity of the work and lushness of the paintings alone make this book valuable, but in recent years, the Russian aristocracy has grown quite a bit. That new cash flow has increased demand for the few complete sets of "Drevnosti Rossiskago Gosudarstva" (the Russian title) still in existence. In 2006, a full set sold for $748,000
