Art of Concentration by Harriet Griffey
Those who have seen people at the work place these days understand the awkwardness of what we come across. Some enterprising people hide the email alerts on the computer monitor with help of paper fish, and then they wear a headset, not to hold conversations, just to block the noise.
All this is done to make sure that the Art of Concentration can be conserved, says the author Harriet Griffey. People trying to concentrate hard while at work need to read out aloud to make sure they are actually thinking about only work and nothing else. Harriet Griffey further says that the odds still suggest you wouldn't be able to concentrate.
Serious Attention Crisis
In the book Art of Concentration by author Harriet Griffey, the author explains the new working generation is going through a serious attention crisis. After an interval of three minutes, every office worker is interrupted by one thing or the other, and almost two third of the workers are affected by email addiction. According to a University of California study, we receive about 34 GB of data every day, which is huge by any standards. The future laboratory suggests all of us are going through stuffocation, information anxiety and filter failure. Most of us ourselves understand that we are suffering from attention deficit disorder.
British Work Hardest
The Future Laboratory further states that people in Britain work the most hours yet they get the least work done, all because of constant distractions. It has become a huge problem and the attention scarcity is looming. The author of the book Art of Concentration, Harriet Griffey says that the modern workers are just great at getting distracted, daydreaming and sabotaging their own performance. The capacity of the Internet to provide instant thrill is tremendous and any other activity cannot even come close. The result is, when people believe they are at work, they are not really doing that much work.
Unique Avoidance Strategies
The modern age workers develop their own unique avoidance strategies, because they are all seeking their own version of virtual comfort food, says Harriet Griffey. Once you have been interrupted (due to whatever reason) you need at least 15 minutes of time to get your concentration back. You become used to emails because it offers instant rewards, just like food, things such as invitation, joke or even attention that we are so eager to get. The author Harriet Griffey of the book Art of Concentration says that if we concentrate properly once when the job is being done, we can do it well, and we'll also manage to extract more from the life, but we find it difficult to control the negative habits such as digital dependence and avoidance.
Dangerous in the Long Term
The situation may become dangerous in the long term, and according to an expert we may become stupid in the long term due to lack of concentration. The expert himself has instructed his kids to stay away from computers.

I am looking for a book of art by mental patients?
I'm looking for a book of artwork done by mental patients. This would probably come about due to art therapy, but I'm having trouble finding one. Does anyone have any recommendations? I need it to have a lot of pictures, but I'm interested in the topic so it can also be informational.
Most books about Art Brut or outsider art will include work by people with mental illnesses, here are a couple that you might find useful:
Art Brut: The Origins of Outsider Art by Lucienne Peiry
http://www.amazon.com/Art-Brut-Origins-Outsider/dp/2080305433/ref=cm_lmf_tit_13_rsrsrs0
Outsider Art: Spontaneous Alternatives by Colin Rhodes
http://www.amazon.com/Outsider-Art-Spontaneous-Alternatives-World/dp/0500203342/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262794635&sr=1-1
There are also several people with mental illnesses who have become quite renowned and have books devoted entirely to their work:
Adolf Wolfli
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Wolfli
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=adolf+wolfli&x=0&y=0
Martin Ramirez
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mart%C3%ADn_Ram%C3%ADrez
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_0_12?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=martin+ramirez&x=0&y=0&sprefix=martin+ramir
Daniel Johnston
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Johnston
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_0_11?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=daniel+johnston&x=0&y=0&sprefix=daniel+john
There are also a couple of art magazines devoted entirely to outsider art that might interest you, Raw Vision (http://www.rawvision.com/) and The Outsider (http://www.art.org/theoutsider.htm).
Oh and as an aside, I'm sure you realize that approaching hospitals in search of examples of artwork done in the course of art therapy (as suggested by some other answerers) is not a good idea but I thought it was worth mentioning that psychiatric patients are entitled to the same level of confidentiality as any other type of patient and no doctor or facility worth its salt would allow access to patients or their artwork to just anyone who asks.
Hope that helps. Cheers.

The Book on the Art of Dancing $42.9 Some of the earliest dance treatises come from Italy and were written in the second half of the 15th century by dancing masters working at the Courts of the great ruling families of Northern Italy such as the dEstes, Gonzagas and Medici. For the first time we have descriptions of the social dances performed at these courts, though the writers often assume a prior knowledge of technique and leave out much that we would like to know today.Although Antonio Cornazano was not a dancing master, he was an enthusiastic amateur, and his work gives us valuable insights into the interpretation of steps such as saltarelli and piva, as well as some poetically descriptive detail on style, presentation, and technique. Most of these early Italian sources are only available in manuscript form, and up to now none have been translated in full. This book will therefore be an invaluable addition to the library of all dance scholars and historians, as well as being of great interest to dance students wanting to know more about the origins of their art. Author: Cornazano, Antonio/ Inglehearn, Madeleine/ Forsyth, Peggy Binding Type: Hardcover Number of Pages: 52 Publication Date: 2011/09/14 Language: English Dimensions: 9.21 x 6.14 x 0.25 inches |
